Hero Bracers Quest

Skip the unrewarding escaped-catman prelude if you only want the bracers. Hunt the Minotaur Hero in Steamfont Mountains, loot his Minotaur Hero Shackles, and return the shackles to Grahan Rothkar beneath the South Qeynos arena for Hero Bracers.

A rare merciful design: the useful half of this quest can be completed without performing the earlier catman errand. Kill one champion, recover one set of shackles, receive one respectable bracer. Efficiency occasionally survives contact with Qeynos bureaucracy.

1. Find Grahan Rothkar beneath the South Qeynos arena

  1. Travel to South Qeynos and enter the arena basement.
  2. Find Grahan Rothkar, the warrior guildmaster beneath the arena, around -33, -470, -24.
  3. If you want the dialogue path, approach at Amiable or better. Current EQL notes that the direct reward hand-in has succeeded at Dubious, but valuable NO DROP quest items are a poor tool for faction experimentation.
  4. You may ignore the earlier escaped-catman / Pen Key quest if your goal is only Hero Bracers.
The first half of this quest offers errands, faction movement, and no required progress toward the artifact. I have therefore performed the ancient scholarly rite of crossing it out.

2. Spawn the Minotaur Hero in Steamfont Mountains

  1. Travel to Steamfont Mountains and head to the minotaur caves.
  2. Kill a minotaur slaver inside the caves to trigger the Minotaur Hero. Current EQL's Minotaur Hero entry also identifies Minotaur Lord as a valid trigger.
  3. When triggered, the level 35 Minotaur Hero appears around 1228, -1640, -108, straight out from the caves.
  4. The Hero begins pathing north about a minute after spawning, so search along his route if he is not standing at the initial location.
Meldrath is an occasional and much less convenient cave visitor. Keep enough attention on the camp to notice when your placeholder session grows teeth.

3. Kill the Hero and loot his shackles

  1. Kill the Minotaur Hero. Current EQL lists him as a level 35 warrior and somewhat magic resistant.
  2. Loot 1 Minotaur Hero Shackles. Current EQL lists the shackles as an always drop from him.
  3. The shackles are LORE and NO DROP, so once you have them there is no reason to continue farming unless another character needs the quest.

4. Return the shackles for Hero Bracers

  1. Return to Grahan Rothkar beneath the South Qeynos arena.
  2. Make certain you do not already possess Hero Bracers.
  3. Give Minotaur Hero Shackles to Grahan Rothkar.
  4. Receive Hero Bracers, plus the documented quest experience, 2 platinum, and faction changes: Steel Warriors, Guards of Qeynos, and Knights of Truth improve; Corrupt Qeynos Guards and Freeport Militia worsen.
Nine armor, ten strength, and useful poison and disease resistance for one dead minotaur. At last, a transaction whose arithmetic does not insult me.

Tips from the Crypt

  • The fastest route is simply Grahan -> Steamfont minotaur caves -> Minotaur Hero -> Grahan. The earlier Nomala/Key portion is optional for this reward.
  • If the Minotaur Hero is not visible after a trigger kill, look north from the documented spawn area before assuming you need another placeholder cycle.
  • The reward is usable by Warrior, Cleric, Paladin, Ranger, Shadow Knight, Monk, Bard, and Rogue. The shackles themselves have a different class list; do not confuse the turn-in item's restrictions with the reward's.
  • Amiable remains the conservative faction recommendation despite documented Dubious turn-in success. Protect the NO DROP shackles first; test social theory on something cheaper.
