Life Leech Spell Quest

Assemble a faceted hyacinth telesm for Kazzel D`Leryt, turn it against Xenyari Lisariel, then survive Kazzel's final betrayal to earn Spell: Life Leech. The quest starts at level 46; Shadow Knights can use Life Leech at level 47 for a fast 250-point lifetap.

Kazzel requires three thousand platinum, rare dungeon loot, a druid's conveniently volunteered blood, and then attempts to murder you after you finish the work. A model employer. The compensation is a brutally fast 250-point lifetap, so regrettably his contract remains worth reading.

1. Meet Kazzel D`Leryt and buy the Uncut Hyacinth

  1. Travel to Rathe Mountains and find Kazzel D`Leryt roaming around -634, -1561 between the documented #24 area and the nearby hill.
  2. You must be at least level 46 for Kazzel to engage with the quest.
  3. Give Kazzel 2,000 platinum to receive an Uncut Hyacinth.

2. Have Darfumpel facet the hyacinth

  1. Find Darfumpel Zirubbel in Rathe Mountains around 4093, 896.
  2. Give Darfumpel the Uncut Hyacinth plus 1,000 platinum.
  3. Receive the Faceted Hyacinth. Current EQL documents the resulting gem as tradeable.
Three thousand platinum spent before Kazzel has surrendered so much as a spell scroll. Necromantic procurement has never been accused of fiscal restraint.

3. Gather the necklace, orb, and Xenyari's blood

  1. Loot 1 White Gold Necklace from a froglok noble in Lower Guk.
  2. Loot 1 Crystalline Orb from a stone spider in Nagafen's Lair.
  3. In Permafrost Keep, kill an icy terror among Lady Vox's guardians and loot 1 Prickly Pear.
  4. Return to Rathe Mountains and find Xenyari Lisariel around the druid ring near 5298, 1765. She roams the mesa and can also stop near the Tabien the Goodly spawn around 6350, 1500.
  5. Give Xenyari the Prickly Pear to receive a Bloodied Piece of Parchment. This is the required voluntary-blood component.
The Prickly Pear is food. Put it somewhere the client will not casually consume it while you are carrying several thousand platinum worth of unfinished quest.

4. Build the telesm and return it to Xenyari

  1. Bring Kazzel the Faceted Hyacinth, White Gold Necklace, Crystalline Orb, and Bloodied Piece of Parchment.
  2. Give all four items to Kazzel to receive a Faceted Hyacinth Telesm.
  3. Take the Faceted Hyacinth Telesm back to Xenyari Lisariel and give it to her.
  4. Xenyari is struck down by the enchanted necklace and you receive a Pulsating Hyacinth Telesm.
Kazzel's definition of 'gift' is alarmingly literal and terminal. Keep your ethical reflections concise; there is still a giant skeleton waiting at the end.

5. Trigger the monstrous zombie and claim Life Leech

  1. Return to Kazzel D`Leryt with the Pulsating Hyacinth Telesm.
  2. Give the Pulsating Hyacinth Telesm to Kazzel. A level-53 monstrous zombie immediately spawns and attacks.
  3. Kill the monstrous zombie and loot Monstrous Zombie Heart.
  4. Give Monstrous Zombie Heart to Kazzel D`Leryt to receive Spell: Life Leech.
Kazzel's final hand-in is an ambush, not a quiet exchange. Buff first, position help first, then surrender the telesm.

6. What Life Leech does

  1. Life Leech is usable by Shadow Knights at level 47.
  2. It drains 250 hit points from the target and returns that life to the caster as a lifetap.
  3. Current EQL spell data lists 181 mana, a very fast 0.5-second cast time, a 10-second recast, 200 range, and Magic resist with a -200 modifier.

Tips from the Crypt

  • Budget the full 3,000 platinum before beginning. Kazzel takes 2,000pp and Darfumpel takes another 1,000pp before the rest of the components matter.
  • The White Gold Necklace and Crystalline Orb can be gathered before speaking to Kazzel if you want to reduce travel after the expensive hyacinth step.
  • Keep the Prickly Pear away from food-consumption slots. The item is both quest-critical and edible, a combination designed by someone with contempt for inventory management.
  • At level 47, Life Leech's 0.5-second cast makes the 250 HP drain particularly useful when you need life returned quickly rather than efficiently.
