Screaming Mace Quest

A compact Crushbone weapon quest. Recover the Dwarven Ringmail Tunic from Emperor Crush for a dwarven smith, take Bracers of Battle from the orc warlord to an elven priest, then trade the resulting Dwarven Mace and Prayer Cloth of Tunare to the priest for the Screaming Mace.

The Unburied Scholar's Appraisal

Remarkably, nearly the entire affair occurs in one dungeon. Kill an emperor, kill a warlord, return two stolen possessions, and acquire a mace with a combat proc. Norrath occasionally demonstrates restraint. Record the date.

1. Collect the two real quest drops

  1. Kill Emperor Crush in Crushbone and loot the Dwarven Ringmail Tunic.
  2. Kill the orc warlord and loot Bracers of Battle.
  3. You can collect both before speaking to either prisoner.
This is the efficient path. There are old preliminaries involving an earring and a shield, but current EQL documentation confirms you may spare yourself the ceremony.

2. Trade the tunic for the Dwarven Mace

  1. Find a dwarven smith inside the slaver cabin around 60, 746.
  2. Ask `What about ringmail?` if you want the direct dialogue prompt.
  3. Give the Dwarven Ringmail Tunic to the smith.
  4. Receive the Dwarven Mace.

3. Obtain the Prayer Cloth of Tunare

  1. Find an elven priest in the last stall on the left of the slaver cabin, around 84, 744.
  2. Say `The king is dead`.
  3. Give the priest Bracers of Battle from the orc warlord.
  4. Receive the Prayer Cloth of Tunare.
The phrase is useful because it advances directly to the proof-of-the-warlord step. Do not hand over the bracers first and then wonder whether ancient quest scripts appreciate improvisation.

4. Finish the Screaming Mace

  1. Give the Dwarven Mace and Prayer Cloth of Tunare to the elven priest.
  2. Receive Screaming Mace. The current EQL item listing gives it an instant combat proc available at level 10.
At last, the Screaming Mace. Eight damage, thirty-five delay, and a proc concealed inside a weapon assembled by two prisoners. Crude circumstances do not preclude useful craftsmanship.

Optional: the old preliminary dialogue

  1. If you want to experience the full dialogue chain, an orc taskmaster's Brass Earring can be given to the dwarven smith for an Unfinished Blade Mold.
  2. You can then give the smith a Shiny Brass Shield from the orc trainer for an Unfinished Sledge Mold.
  3. These preliminary exchanges are not required for the core Dwarven Ringmail Tunic -> Dwarven Mace -> Prayer Cloth -> Screaming Mace completion path on current EQL.

Tips from the Crypt

  • Farm Emperor Crush and the orc warlord first. Once you have the tunic and bracers, the remaining work is two short hand-ins inside the same slaver cabin.
  • The P99-era documentation preserves the same core structure, which is useful corroboration, but current EQL documentation is clearer that the earring/shield preliminaries can be skipped.
  • The final Screaming Mace is usable by all classes except NEC, WIZ, MAG, and ENC according to current EQL item data.
