Hunt four titan spirits in Stonebrunt Mountains and return their hides to Akbaq Salid in paired turn-ins. Snowbeast plus Prowler of the Jungle yields the Astral Cloak of the Titans; Old Ghostback plus Giang Yin yields the Astral Leggings of the Titans. A separate snake-skin branch also exists, because apparently four enormous spirit animals were not sufficient paperwork.

The Unburied Scholar's Appraisal

The Stonebrunt titans are exactly the sort of specimens a sensible scholar would preserve. Akbaq instead asks you to kill them and bring back the skins, then fashions two Astral pieces from the remains. Crude methodology, excellent artifacts. I have seen worse research grants.

1. Meet Akbaq Salid in Erudin Palace

  1. Travel to Erudin Palace and enter the Tower of the Crimson Hands, the Erudin Wizard guild.
  2. Find Akbaq Salid on the second floor around 892, 761.
  3. Reach Indifferent or better if you want the quest dialogue reliably. Sneak is documented as sufficient for receiving the quest.
  4. Ask about `samples`, then `others`, to hear Akbaq describe the feline titans, the stronger gorilla and panda titans, and the optional ancient snake work.

2. Hunt Snowbeast for the white sabertooth hide

  1. Travel to Stonebrunt Mountains.
  2. Hunt Snowbeast, a level 40 sabertooth titan. Current EQL lists spawn locations around 1696, -2524 and 3250, 1015.
  3. Snowbeast spawns immediately when its placeholder is killed. Current EQL identifies highland tigers or kejek tigers as possible same-family placeholders.
  4. Loot 1 Giant White Sabertooth Hide. Snowbeast can roam widely after spawning, especially through the north and north-west portions of the zone.
If Snowbeast is absent, kill the local tiger population rather than staring at an empty coordinate. Titan spirits apparently require encouragement in the form of ecological devastation.

3. Hunt Prowler of the Jungle for the leopard hide

  1. Hunt Prowler of the Jungle, a level 37 puma titan. Current EQL lists a spawn reference around 2000, 2000.
  2. Current EQL describes the Prowler as an instant spawn after its trigger is killed and notes that leopards can trigger it once the cycle has been established.
  3. Loot 1 Giant Leopard Hide. The Prowler does not drop every possible loot item on every kill, so another spawn may be required.

4. Turn in the two feline hides for the Astral Cloak

  1. Return to Akbaq Salid with Giant White Sabertooth Hide and Giant Leopard Hide.
  2. Give the two feline hides to Akbaq together.
  3. Receive Astral Cloak of the Titans. Current EQL lists it as BACK, AC 4, -3 STR, +9 INT, +6 AGI, -5 Magic Resist, ALL classes.
The first specimen set becomes the Astral Cloak of the Titans. The negative strength and magic resistance are inelegant, but nine intelligence from a cloak stitched out of spirit cats remains worthy of the archive.

5. Hunt Old Ghostback for the gigantic gorilla hide

  1. Hunt Old Ghostback, a level 42 gorilla shaman. Current EQL lists him around 1734, -2702.
  2. Kill gorillas in the northern part of Stonebrunt Mountains to make Old Ghostback spawn.
  3. Loot 1 Gigantic Gorilla Hide. Current EQL lists the hide as a common drop, but not guaranteed.
Old Ghostback is not merely an oversized gorilla. He is a level 42 shaman with control and damage spells and is immune to snare/root. Approach accordingly.

6. Hunt Giang Yin for the gargantuan panda pelt

  1. Hunt Giang Yin, a level 44 giant panda ranger. Current EQL lists a spawn reference around 1822, -1364.
  2. Other pandas in the zone appear to serve as Giang Yin's placeholders, so clear pandas when he is absent.
  3. Giang Yin roams a large portion of the zone at roughly Spirit of Wolf speed and cannot be snared or rooted.
  4. Loot 1 Gargantuan Panda Pelt.

7. Turn in the gorilla and panda hides for the Astral Leggings

  1. Return to Akbaq Salid with Gigantic Gorilla Hide and Gargantuan Panda Pelt.
  2. Give the gorilla hide and panda pelt to Akbaq together.
  3. Receive Astral Leggings of the Titans. Current EQL lists them as LEGS, AC 5, +10 INT, +8 AGI, -5 Magic Resist, usable by NEC / WIZ / MAG / ENC.
The stronger titan pair yields the Astral Leggings of the Titans. Ten intelligence from trousers is respectable. Ten intelligence from trousers made of a spectral gorilla and panda is art.

8. Optional: the Elder Serpent branch

Akbaq also accepts Ancient Snake Skin from Slyder the Ancient plus 1 Platinum Thread for Scaled Robe of the Elder Serpent. This is a separate reward branch and is not required for either Astral item.

If you only want the Astral Cloak and Astral Leggings, you can ignore the serpent entirely and preserve whatever remains of Stonebrunt's reptile population.

Tips from the Crypt

  • If you want both Astral rewards, gather all four hides before returning to Erudin. The cloak pair and leggings pair remain separate turn-ins, but one travel cycle is better than two.
  • The named titans roam after spawning. Once a matching animal placeholder dies, search the surrounding area instead of assuming the named spawned exactly where you killed the placeholder.
  • The quest rewards improve Crimson Hands, High Council of Erudin, and High Guard of Erudin while lowering Heretics faction.
  • Current EQL player notes say hand-ins have worked at Apprehensive, but the quest dialogue explicitly requires Indifferent. Use Indifferent as the safe threshold when valuable NO DROP hides are involved.
