Rain Caller Quest

Upgrade a Trueshot Longbow into Rain Caller by recovering a Treant Heart and restoring Princess Joleena's stolen wing through an absurd gnomish toupee repair chain. The route crosses Faydwer, Freeport, Cazic-Thule, and Kedge Keep before Kinool Goldsinger accepts the final bow, heart, fairie gold dust, and 3000 gold pieces.

The Unburied Scholar's Appraisal

The bow is excellent. The method involves a bald gnome, ten bottles of hair tonic, gorilla hair, mermaid hair, a stolen fairie wing, a treant heart, and three thousand gold pieces. Someone once looked at archery and decided the missing ingredient was cosmetology. Endure it. The artifact is worth the indignity.

1. Prerequisite: secure a Trueshot Longbow

  1. If you already have Trueshot Longbow, keep it and continue to the Rain Caller components below.
  2. If not, Maesyn Trueshot in Kelethin begins the Trueshot Longbow Quest around -451, 520, 116. Current EQL requires Amiable faction for him to hand over the Material Pack.
  3. For one bow attempt you ultimately need two Dwarven Wires, two Micro Servos, one Wooden Shards, one Spiderling Silk, one Treant Bow Staff, and one Planing Tool across the quest and final Fletching combine.
  4. A practical route is: turn 2 Tumpy Tonics at a time to Trantor Everhot in North Kaladim for Dwarven Wire; give Small Lanterns one at a time to Jyle Windshot in West Freeport for Wooden Shards; loot Spiderling Silk; and obtain Micro Servos from rogue clockworks in Steamfont.
  5. Combine one Dwarven Wire + Wooden Shards + Spiderling Silk + Micro Servo in Maesyn's Material Pack, give the resulting Pack of Materials to Maesyn for the Treant Bow Staff, then fletch Treant Bow Staff + Micro Servo + Dwarven Wire + Planing Tool. Current EQL lists the Trueshot combine at trivial 235.
When feeding Jyle lanterns for Wooden Shards, save any A Wooden Heart he gives you. The heart is the Rain Caller component, so a fortunate Trueshot attempt can quietly solve part of the next quest.

2. Get Sanfyrd's Crate for Tonics

  1. Find Sanfyrd Featherhead at the scrapyard in Ak'Anon, currently listed around 2020, -231.
  2. Follow the dialogue about Princess Joleena's wing, being his friend, and fetching hair tonic until he gives you a 10-slot Crate for Tonics.
  3. Travel to West Freeport and find Ping Fuzzlecutter outside the west gate around -269, 535.
  4. Buy 10 Fuzzlecutter Formula 5000 from Ping, place all ten in the Crate for Tonics, and combine them into a Crate of Tonic.
  5. Return the Crate of Tonic to Sanfyrd. He gives you the Tattered Toupee.
Yes, the enchanted bow quest has become a hair-restoration project. Do not search for logic where only gnomish vanity exists.

3. Collect the hair for Ping's repair

  1. Kill a hulking gorilla in Cazic-Thule until you have 2 Clump of Gorilla Hair.
  2. Travel to Kedge Keep and camp a golden haired mermaid for 1 Lock of Hair. Current EQL places the spawn at roughly -177, -31, 95 with a 20% appearance chance.
  3. Return to Ping Fuzzlecutter in West Freeport.
  4. Give Ping the Tattered Toupee, 2 Clump of Gorilla Hair, and 1 Lock of Hair to receive Mane Attraction.
Kedge Keep is the serious stop. The mermaid sees invisibility and lives in a dungeon built almost entirely from water and poor decisions. Bring Enduring Breath and respect the pull.

4. Trade the Mane for Joleena's wing

  1. Return to Sanfyrd Featherhead in Ak'Anon.
  2. Give him Mane Attraction.
  3. Receive A Glimmering Fairie Wing, identified as Princess Joleena's Wing.
Mane Attraction is useful in its own right, particularly for Mana Preservation II, but finishing Rain Caller consumes it here. Decide which relic you actually want before handing over the hairpiece.

5. Return Princess Joleena's wing

  1. Find Princess Joleena in Lesser Faydark.
  2. Give her A Glimmering Fairie Wing.
  3. Receive Pouch of Gold Dust, identified as Fairie Gold Dust.

6. Obtain the Treant Heart

  1. If you saved A Wooden Heart while doing the Trueshot Longbow Quest, this step is already complete.
  2. Otherwise return to Jyle Windshot in West Freeport and give him Small Lanterns one at a time until he gives A Wooden Heart. Current EQL estimates about a 10% chance per lantern.
  3. Treants can also drop the heart, but killing treants is generally an unattractive solution for a Ranger because of faction consequences.

7. Complete Rain Caller in South Felwithe

  1. Find Kinool Goldsinger in the Enchanter guild in South Felwithe. Historical references place him around 556, -839.
  2. Prepare exactly these final requirements: Pouch of Gold Dust, A Wooden Heart, Trueshot Longbow, and 3000 gold pieces (300 platinum).
  3. Give the components and money to Kinool Goldsinger to receive Rain Caller.
  4. Current EQL Rain Caller is 20 damage / 45 delay, +6 STR, +6 DEX, range 200, with Firestrike at level 40 and a 120-second cooldown.
At last, Rain Caller. The same twenty-damage frame as the Trueshot, doubled range, useful attributes, and an actual Firestrike bound into the bow. This is what all the gorilla hair was for. Try not to dwell on that.

Tips from the Crypt

  • Do the Jyle Windshot lantern turn-ins while working on Trueshot and keep the first A Wooden Heart you see. This prevents an unnecessary return trip during Rain Caller.
  • Gather extra Trueshot components before attempting the trivial-235 Fletching combine if your skill is below trivial. A failed bow means the Rain Caller prerequisite is still missing.
  • Current EQL community reports strongly favor Rain Caller as an early/midgame bow progression target even before the Firestrike click becomes available at level 40; treat those reports as player experience, not a replacement for the EQL quest documentation.
  • Mane Attraction's current EQL focus is Mana Preservation II. If your character values that head item more than Rain Caller, you can simply stop before returning it to Sanfyrd.
