The Fiery Avenger

A long Paladin quest built from two storied swords, the remains of Miragul, a pair of dragon-torn book halves, and a final audience in the Plane of Sky. The errands are substantial and the turn-ins are unforgiving, but the blade at the end is one of the rare relics that justifies the pilgrimage.

The Unburied Scholar's Appraisal

Tedious, expensive, faction-sensitive, and regrettably worthwhile. The Fiery Avenger has enough old power in it that I will forgive the itinerary. I will not forgive careless turn-ins.

1. Gather the two swords

Obtain SoulFire by completing Zimel's Blades (SoulFire) and obtain Ghoulbane. You will surrender both to Inte Akera later, so remove any sentimental attachment now.

If you also intend to pursue The Torrid Corruptor, remember that SoulFire is LORE. You cannot simply carry two copies. Use your first SoulFire for Fiery Avenger, then complete Zimel's Blades again for the SoulFire required by Torrid Corruptor. Norrath has found a way to make even sensible planning inconvenient.

2. Reassemble the Book of Scale

  1. Loot the Torn, burnt book from Lord Nagafen in Nagafen's Lair.
  2. Loot the Torn, Frost covered book from Lady Vox in Permafrost Keep.
  3. Bring both book halves and 1,000 platinum to Rysva To`Biath in Neriak Commons or Rineval Talyas in North Qeynos. Either NPC can return the completed Book of Scale. Current EQL documentation reports that this combine turn-in does not require faction.
  4. The Book of Scale is tradeable, so obtaining one from another player is also a valid shortcut. I have no objection to efficiency when it is finally offered.

3. Wake Miragul

  1. Take the Book of Scale to the Oracle of K`Arnon in Ocean of Tears and exchange it for Miragul's Phylactery.
  2. Travel to the underwater ice caves in Everfrost Peaks and find the Lich of Miragul.
  3. Hand Miragul's Phylactery to the Lich of Miragul. On EQ Legends, current documentation states that charming the lich is not required. Older guides may insist otherwise; the dead are not the only things that linger past their usefulness.
  4. The turn-in spawns Miragul, a level 53 necromancer. Kill him and loot Miragul's Head and Miragul's Robe.
Loot eligibility matters here: Miragul's Head and Miragul's Robe are tied to the character that handed in the Phylactery. Make that turn-in on the character completing the quest.

4. Prepare the Plane of Sky turn-in

  1. Reach Island 4 of Plane of Sky and make certain you know the route to the windmill before summoning Inte Akera.
  2. Confirm that your Deepwater Knights faction is Warmly or better.
  3. Return to the Efreeti quest room and give Dason Goldblade 500 platinum to summon Inte Akera inside the Island 4 windmill.
  4. Treat the spawn as time-sensitive. Clear your route first, refresh invisibility or travel buffs if needed, and then summon him. There is little glory in losing a quest to leisurely navigation.

5. The Inte Akera turn-ins

  1. Give SoulFire to Inte Akera ALONE. Receive the Blessing of Nobility.
  2. Give Ghoulbane to Inte Akera ALONE. Receive the Blessing of Sacrifice.
  3. Give Inte Akera the Blessing of Nobility, Blessing of Sacrifice, Miragul's Head, and Miragul's Robe TOGETHER in the final turn-in.
  4. Receive Fiery Avenger.
At last. A blade worthy of the inconvenience. Keep it close, and do not discover creative new ways to hand the wrong objects to Inte Akera. Others have already performed that experiment for you.

Tips from the Crypt

  • Do the faction work before entering the Plane of Sky. Inte Akera is a poor place to discover that your reputation is one category short.
  • A reliable EQL route for Deepwater Knights faction is the Kobold Molars (Good) turn-in. Kobolds in The Warrens can drop Kobold Molars; hand them to Tiam Khonsir at loc -1127, -419 behind the Temple of Deepwater Knights in Erudin. EQLWiki records +7 Deepwater Knights and +5 High Council of Erudin per molar, with -1 Heretics and -1 Kerra Isle. He accepts 1 to 4 molars at a time. Bureaucracy, but at least this variety stacks in your bags.
  • If completing both Fiery Avenger and The Torrid Corruptor, a clean order is: complete Zimel's Blades (SoulFire), use that SoulFire for Fiery Avenger, then repeat Zimel's Blades for the SoulFire required by Torrid Corruptor. Do the Deepwater Knights work before the Torrid faction path, since Kobold Molar turn-ins slightly reduce Heretics faction.
  • A fresh personal instance can make some long-spawn preparation considerably less tiresome, but always verify the current in-game behavior before sacrificing a quest item.
