The Torrid Corruptor

An EQ Legends-specific knight quest that begins by corrupting the conclusion of the SoulFire journey and proceeds through three captured souls, opposed factions, a living Lord Grimrot, Paineel, the Plane of Sky, and the tunnels beneath East Freeport. It is long, destructive to several reputations, and built for adventurers who consider moral consistency an optional burden.

The Unburied Scholar's Appraisal

This quest asks you to finish SoulFire, murder one of the men involved, bargain with several mutually hostile factions, kill Inte Akera, and finally surrender three burning souls and another SoulFire. Excessive? Certainly. The weapon, however... now this interests me.

1. Corrupt the end of SoulFire

  1. Complete Zimel's Blades (SoulFire) and obtain SoulFire.
  2. Return to Brother Hayle in the prison area of Splitpaw Lair. Current EQL documentation says the Torrid path becomes available when your active loadout contains both Paladin and Shadow Knight.
  3. Kill Brother Hayle and loot the Burning Soul of the Pious.
  4. Right-click the Burning Soul of the Pious in your inventory to advance the quest. Do not merely admire it. The item interaction matters.
Yes, this begins immediately after obtaining SoulFire from a quest in which Brother Hayle was rather helpful. Norrath has never been burdened by excessive sentiment.

2. Prepare Bloodsabers faction and the Dark Reaver

  1. Raise Bloodsabers to Kindly or better before approaching Lord Grimrot. One documented option is Guard Shilster in North Karana, who accepts 5 gold turn-ins for Bloodsabers faction.
  2. Camp a ghoul cavalier in Lower Guk and obtain A Dark Reaver.
  3. Keep the Dark Reaver and the clicked Burning Soul of the Pious together. Both are needed for the next turn-in.

3. Betray the living Lord Grimrot

  1. Find Lord Grimrot near the skeletons in South Karana around loc 1377, 1172. There are living and undead versions with the same name. You need the living one.
  2. Give the living Lord Grimrot A Dark Reaver and the clicked Burning Soul of the Pious.
  3. He returns a changed Burning Soul of the Pious. Right-click it as a safety check: the successful post-turn-in version should no longer produce the earlier quest text.
  4. Kill the living Lord Grimrot.
  5. Loot the charged Pestilence Scythe and the Burning Soul of the Pestilent.
  6. Right-click the Burning Soul of the Pestilent to advance the quest.
EQLWiki notes that the living Grimrot is associated with daytime and suggests using /time plus a fresh non-respawning instance to make the spawn less tiresome. He wanders through mortality and undeath because simply standing there would have been too convenient.

4. Earn the Heretics' cooperation

  1. Raise Heretics faction to Warmly or better. Killing kobolds in The Warrens is the straightforward EQL method documented for this step.
  2. Travel to Paineel and find Jotayi Ibupran on the third-floor balcony of the Necromancer guild, around loc 726, 856, -54.
  3. Give Jotayi Ibupran the Burning Soul of the Pestilent and the charged Pestilence Scythe.
  4. Keep the returned soul. This turn-in also lowers Deepwater Knights faction, which is one reason the Fiery Avenger belongs earlier in your itinerary if you intend to complete both.

5. Take the Burning Soul of the Virtuous

  1. Make certain you are keyed to Island 4 of Plane of Sky and know the route to the windmill.
  2. In the Efreeti quest room, give Dason Goldblade 500 platinum to summon Inte Akera in the Island 4 windmill.
  3. Reach the windmill and kill Inte Akera, a level 55 Paladin.
  4. Loot the Burning Soul of the Virtuous and right-click it to advance the quest.
  5. If you are grouped, EQLWiki states that the Burning Soul is linked to the character who gave Dason Goldblade the 500 platinum. Make the payment on the character completing the quest.

6. Raise Dismal Rage and find Luxio Nulsis

  1. Raise Dismal Rage to Kindly or better. The Assist the Great Xelha turn-ins beneath East Freeport are a documented route: four Bone Chips grant faction, as do batches of four Fire Beetle Eyes or four Spiderling Silk.
  2. Find Luxio Nulsis in the East Freeport tunnels near the Shadow Knight and Necromancer guild masters.
  3. Hailing him is insufficient. Say the exact phrase: "I still seek guidance".
  4. Prepare the Burning Soul of the Pious, Burning Soul of the Pestilent, Burning Soul of the Virtuous, and SoulFire for the final hand-in.

7. Final turn-in

  1. Give Luxio Nulsis all three Burning Souls and SoulFire.
  2. Receive Torrid Corruptor.
At last. Thirty-three damage, a vicious curse, and enough old malice to make the entire pilgrimage seem almost reasonable. Almost. Do not sell it to a merchant. I will know.

Tips from the Crypt

  • Prepare faction before carrying valuable quest pieces to the relevant NPC. These scripts are not known for sympathy.
  • If you are doing The Fiery Avenger first, Kobold Molars are a useful way to build the required Deepwater Knights faction: farm them from kobolds in The Warrens and hand them to Tiam Khonsir at loc -1127, -419 behind the Temple of Deepwater Knights in Erudin. Each molar currently gives +7 Deepwater Knights and +5 High Council of Erudin, but also -1 Heretics and -1 Kerra Isle. Do this before the Torrid Heretics grind unless you enjoy repairing faction twice.
  • Paineel's newbie yard is a useful place to gather Bone Chips and Fire Beetle Eyes for the Dismal Rage work.
  • The August 2026 EQ Legends updates adjusted Torrid Corruptor quest-title behavior. If the title does not appear normally, current official notes say right-clicking the equipped Torrid Corruptor can grant it retroactively; zoning may be required for the title to propagate.
